FAQ of using thermal lamination film

Thermal lamination film is a kind of glue pre-coated film which is widely used to protect printings. While using it, there may have some problems.

•  Bubbling:
Reason 1: Surface contamination of the printings or film
When the surface of the printings or film has dust, grease, moisture, or other contaminants before laminating, it can lead to bubbling.Solution: Prior to lamination, ensure that the surface of the object is thoroughly cleaned, dry, and free from contaminants.

Reason 2: Improper temperature
If the temperature during lamination is excessively high or low, it can result in bubbling of the laminating.Solution: Ensure that the temperature throughout the lamination process is suitable and consistent.

•  Wrinkling:
Reason 1: The tension control at both ends is unbalanced during laminating
If the tension is unbalance while laminating, it may have wavy edge, and cause wrinkling.
Solution: Adjust the tension control system of the laminating machine to ensure uniform tension between the coating film and the printed matter during the laminating process.

Reason 2: Uneven pressure of the heating roller and rubber roller.
Solution: Adjust the pressure of the 2 rollers, make sure their pressure is balance.

•  Low adhesion:
Reason 1: The ink of the printings is not fully dry
If the ink on the printed materials is not fully dry, it can lead to a decrease in viscosity during lamination. Undried ink may mix with the pre-coated film during lamination, causing a reduction in viscosity.
Solution: Ensure that the ink is completely dry before proceeding with lamination.

Reason 2: There are excessive paraffin and silicone oil in the ink
These ingredients may affect the viscosity of the heat laminating film, resulting in a decrease in viscosity after coating.
Solution: Use EKO’s digital super sticky thermal lamination film for laminating these kind of printings. It’s especially designed for the digital printings.

Reason 3: Excessive powder spraying on the surface of the printed matter
If there is an excessive amount of powder on the surface of the printed material, there is a risk that the glue of the film may be mixed with the powder during lamination, leading to a reduction in viscosity.
Solution: Control the amount of powder spraying is important.

Reason 4: Improper laminating temperature, pressure and speed
Solution: Set these 3 factors to a proper value.
